Virgilio looking pretty proud of himself after his Aintree victory

At Aintree’s evening meeting on Friday the ever-consistent and tough customer Virgilio got the weekend off to a great start when winning the Neil Sutherland Memorial Handicap Chase by 7l. Having kept good company in Graded novices’ chases throughout last season, it was a deserved win for a popular character at the yard.

Saturday’s meeting at Bangor brought about a double on the card, with Paul & Clare Rooney’s Lieutenant Gruber getting off the mark over hurdles in good style. Later on in the day Too Many Diamonds completed his hat-trick for the week, after victories at Plumpton & Sedgefield. Holryale capped off a super day with a game victory in the bumper at Uttoxeter that evening.

Too Many Diamonds happy out in the paddock this morning

On Sunday the run of form of the Rio Gold Racing Club continued with great wins from I’ll Be Your Clown at Market Rasen and Petrou at Stratford. Moment of the week however must go to the remarkable Too Many Diamonds, who 24hr after scoring at Bangor scored a 2 and a quarter length victory over Hear The Chimes to take his tally to an incredible four wins in a week.

After a busy week ‘Diamonds’ will now get a well-earned rest and has spent today out in the paddock. What he has achieved this week is quite extraordinary and is testament to his toughness and character, and everyone in the yard is extremely proud of his efforts.
